Palermo Aike is a major, emerging unconventional shale play located in Argentina's southern Santa Cruz province, touted as the "new Vaca Muerta" with an estimated 6.6 to 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Spanning over 12,600 , this deep-south formation is undergoing active exploration by YPF and CGC, with initial horizontal drilling completed to test its potential for light crude and gas. 

Key details about the Palermo Aike development include: 

• Geological Profile: Similar to Vaca Muerta, it features marine source rocks with depths between 2,800 and 3,500 meters.
• Location Advantage: It is situated near Río Gallegos and the coast, facilitating infrastructure development and exports.
• Active Development: Following successful fracking of initial exploratory wells in 2023-2024, the partnership is investing in further exploration to confirm commercial viability.
• Technical Challenges: Operations face harsh, cold weather conditions, with firms leveraging experience from similar environments.

The Dialogue will include an opening ceremony on the evening of March 19, and a full day of content, including panel discussions and plenty of networking opportunities on March 20th. The Africa Energy Forum is an event focused on the clean tech and renewable energy sector. Shauna Curry, the CEO of CAWST (Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology) will speak to CAWST's efforts in providing safe water and sanitation technology to low- and middle-income countries. Shauna will discuss how internationally active companies can augment their ESG commitments with water and sanitation technology.

Lawrence West, the Vice President of Exploration of Gran Tierra, will discuss their current activities in South America. Lawrence West has 43 years of experience as an executive, explorationist, and geologist, and has a proven track record of success working on projects across the globe.

Dr. Khriashchevska received her M.Sc. in geology in 1998 and her Ph.D. in 2001 from Moscow State University. She spent six years with Naftogaz of Ukraine as Deputy Chief Geologist in charge of geological projects in the Black Sea region, Egypt, Algeria and the UAE. Since 2010 she has been heading exploration projects for various international oil & gas companies at SPK-Geoservice and SPK-GEO LLC.

Oksana has published over 30 papers on the geology and tectonics of the Black Sea region.
