Canada has dropped 56 rigs for the week ended Mar. 22, according to Baker Hughes data. With 105 rigs running, the count is less than the 161 units drilling this week a year ago. The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada fell by 49, bringing the count to 49 rigs for the week. Gas-directed rigs were down 7 to 56 units.

Government data Mar. 20 indicated a tightening of US oil supplies, pushing the price past the $60/bbl mark for the first time since Nov. 9, 2018. Analysts expected a small drawdown in supplies, but the US Energy Information Administration’s weekly oil and products inventory report showed crude oil inventories for the prior week decreased 9.6 million bbl.

Electricity generation from U.S. nuclear power plants totaled 807.1 million megawatthours (MWh) in 2018, slightly more than the previous peak of 807.0 million MWh in 2010, based on preliminary annual data. Although several nuclear power plants have closed since 2010, a combination of added capacity through uprates and shorter refueling and maintenance cycles allowed the remaining nuclear power plants to produce more electricity. In the near future, however, EIA expects that U.S. nuclear power output will decline.

Rystad: Oil service market to remain depressed until 2025

In the last two months of 2018, the U.S. Gulf Coast exported more crude oil than it imported. Monthly net trade of crude oil in the Gulf Coast region (the difference between gross exports and gross imports) fell from a high in early 2007 of 6.6 million barrels per day (b/d) of net imports to 0.4 million b/d of net exports in December 2018. Those rigs drilling in inland waters added 2 units to reach 3.

Equinor gets approval to extend life of Gullfaks oil field

Neptune plans Gjoa tie-back developments

Neptune Energy and partners plan to develop in parallel Duva oil and gas field and an extension designated P1 of Gjoa oil and gas field in the Norwegian North Sea with subsea completions tied back to the Gjoa platform on PL153. Neptune Energy Norge operates both fields, where water depth is about 360 m.

California’s new underground injection rules go into effect Apr. 1

California’s new underground injection requirements will affect some 55,000 underground injection control (UIC) wells when they go into effect on Apr. 1, the state’s Department of Conservation (DOC) reported. It said the new rules affect wells that inject water or steam for enhanced oil recovery, along with wells that return produced water back to its source.
